My kids loved this story. We read it before bed and each them (between ages 3-9) were enjoying the story's theme and beautiful illustrations. The principles and heart of God towards each of His children displayed in this book, even when we fail, are things every child needs to be exposed to. A great and enjoyable read for sure!

My youngest who is 4 years old had me read the story of Joshua 3 times and then he looked at the pictures and told me the story. I wasn't expecting the ending which made enjoying the book so much better. I loved the story and the beautiful pictures. I love this book.

I thought this book was a great read for the layman/ non-science or medical person who wants a better understanding of what addiction is, and how it can be effectively treated. Some reviewers have panned this book as over-simplified, or a re-hash of research that has been around for awhile. While that may be true, the strength of this book is that it gives a very clear message about what addiction is -and is not- from a medical standpoint that is clear and well documented. It makes this information accessible to a broad audience who does not have access or an educational background to understand the technical aspects of the research on addiction, which - lets face it- are generally made public.
That alone makes it a very valuable resource for the layman to identify treatment protocols that work, and as an advocacy tool for addicts who have become trapped in the revolving door of the criminal justice system as a result of their addictions.

About the Author
Ali �ehreli has been working as a C, C++, and more recently D programmer with small and large networking companies in Silicon Valley since 1996. He is a board member and the secretary of The D Language Foundation, and an organizer of the Silicon Valley Chapter of the ACCU and the DLang Silicon Valley Meetup groups. He is a regular speaker at D conferences.

One of the better programming books I've read through

(The first thing to point out is that this book is available for free as pdf in a link from the dlang.org homepage (http://ddili.org/ders/d.en/index.html). The pdf and book appear to be identical. I dislike reading books/tutorials from a pdf since I'll copy and paste the example code and exercises, which isn't conducive to learning... Plus, having a good looking hardcopy is always nice.)

The book is great. It may even be a good book for learning programming in general (especially C-like languages), if you don't have any coding experience. The entire book gives very concise statements and examples for each idea. Even the chapters themselves are short and to-the-point. The author doesn't try to be sarcastic or witty. It's a proper tutorial for idiomatic D.

Though it's probably a reasonable reference book for D, if you already have a good handle on the language or have a lot of experience with C++, the book does build in a linear fashion. Since most of my previous experience is in python, skipping chapters made me feel lost... so read chapters in order. (The author even says this in the preface.)
