Habib Davanloo is the founder and pioneer of Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy, which is taught and practised at institutes of psychotherapy worldwide. His scientific and systematic research of the past few decades, combined with a number of discoveries, has led to the development of his comprehensive new psychology of the unconscious mind based on neurobiological pathways of human emotions and major revision of the metapsychology of the unconscious.
Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy offers theoretical, metapsychological and technical knowledge which can be used with extraordinary precision to gain access to the psychopathological dynamic forces responsbile for the patient's symptoms and character disturbances. Many years of research and clinical experience with this method, using video technology as a research tool, has shown that even a single interview produces major mobilization of the unconscious and a unique opportunity for both therapist and patient to have a direct view of the pathogenic organization of the unconscious responsible for the patient's disturbances.

About the Author
Habib Davanloo is Professor of Psychiatry at McGill University, Montreal, and Senior Consultant at McGill University Health Centre, The Montreal General Hospital, Quebec. He was founding editor of the International Journal of Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy.

When I received the book I was surprised to find that it as a compilation of articles that I already owned. Having said that, these articles are some of the most important articles that were ever written on the practice of psychotherapy. If you are an ISTDP practitioner or looking to learn ISTDP these articles are a must have. The chapters are as follows:

Potent and satisfying.

This might be one of the best psychotherapy books I've come across, especially on the topic of resistance and I wonder why this was the first review of it. The only reason I could think of is that the book is quite expensive, which according to Jon Frederickson of the ISTDP Institute is because it never was reprinted, and consequently not too many copies still exist.
If you are interested in learning more about ISTDP or just therapeutic resistance this books is top notch! I think that if you could just understand and be able to use a fraction of what is taught in this book you probably get a whole lot out of it.
The cases are excellent, and the authors comments along the way are very satisfying and I have learned a lot from it.
